Born August, 1974 in Frankfurt am Main, Germany and raised on the Canary Island of Tenerife, Ana Plasencia is an international journalist/moderator who is comfortable presenting in English, Spanish, German, and Italian.
It was pure coincidence that Plasencia wasn’t brought into the world on the Canary Islands, like her siblings: Her father was working as an anesthesiologist in Frankfurt at the time. When she was three years old, her family returned to the Spanish island of Tenerife.
In 1992, soon after her school-leaving exams, Plasencia ventured back to the country of her birth to study journalism and communication science at the Freie Universität Berlin. “If I’d have known at the time how much I’d freeze in Berlin every winter, the decision to leave Tenerife wouldn’t have been so easy,” she says with a wink. “I am truly a sun child.”
When she’s asked about her hobbies, Ana usually answers: “My favorite hobby is good food.” For anyone planning a trip to the Canary Islands, she warmly recommends trying the “papas arrugadas con mojo,” adding “definitely eat the potatoes in their jackets!”
